Originally established as a division of Salsbury Laboratories, the company was acquired by Cambrex Corporation in 1991. Following the acquisition, the facility became a cornerstone of Cambrex's contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) operations. The site provides a wide range of services, including process development, scale-up, and commercial cGMP production of small molecule therapeutics. It is recognized for its expertise in complex chemistry and the handling of high-potency APIs. Today, the Charles City location remains one of the largest and most advanced API manufacturing sites in the United States.
