Samyang Genex was a prominent South Korean biotechnology and food ingredients company, operating as a key subsidiary of the Samyang Group. The company achieved international recognition as the first in the world to commercialize the mass production of paclitaxel, a potent anti-cancer agent, using advanced plant cell culture technology. Marketed under the brand name Genexol, this product established the company's footprint in the global oncology market. In addition to its pharmaceutical business, Samyang Genex was a major producer of starch-based sweeteners and specialty chemicals for various industrial applications. In January 2016, the company was merged into Samyang Corporation to consolidate the group's chemical and biological resources. This strategic integration aimed to enhance R&D efficiency and expand the group's presence in the global life sciences sector.
