Company intelligence / Profile preview
Sandoz Agro was the dedicated agricultural division of the Swiss life sciences multinational Sandoz, specializing in the development and manufacture of crop protection and animal health products. Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, the company was a global leader in the agrochemical sector, known for its extensive portfolio of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. In 1996, Sandoz Agro was merged with the agricultural unit of Ciba-Geigy as part of the corporate merger that formed Novartis, creating Novartis Agribusiness. This division was subsequently spun off and merged with AstraZeneca's agrochemical business in 2000 to form Syngenta. Today, the legacy of Sandoz Agro's research and its key products, such as the herbicide dicamba, continue to be central to Syngenta's global operations.
