Sangtec Molecular Diagnostics was a Swedish biotechnology company specializing in the development and manufacture of molecular diagnostic assays for infectious diseases. The company was widely recognized for its Affigene product line, which utilized real-time PCR technology to monitor viral loads in immunocompromised patients, such as those undergoing organ or bone marrow transplantation. Its portfolio included CE-marked assays for critical pathogens including Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and BK virus (BKV). In 2007, the company was acquired by Cepheid for approximately $27 million, a strategic move that allowed Cepheid to expand its menu of clinical tests and strengthen its presence in the European molecular diagnostics market. Following the acquisition, Sangtec's expertise in standardized quantitative PCR was integrated into Cepheid's broader diagnostic platforms.
