Company intelligence / Profile preview
Sankofa Therapeutics was a private biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel small molecule therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The company's lead program centered on the inhibition of inositol-trisphosphate 3-kinase B (ITPKB), a key enzyme involved in the signaling pathways of B cells and T cells. By targeting ITPKB, Sankofa aimed to modulate immune responses in conditions where overactive immune cells drive disease progression. In May 2018, the company was acquired by Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT) to diversify GBT's pipeline beyond sickle cell disease. Following GBT's acquisition by Pfizer in 2022, the assets became part of Pfizer's broader immunology and inflammation portfolio.
