Sankyo Parke-Davis

Sankyo Parke-Davis was a strategic pharmaceutical joint venture formed between the Japanese company Sankyo and the American firm Parke-Davis, which was a division of Warner-Lambert. The partnership was primarily focused on the development and commercialization of metabolic and cardiovascular therapies within the United States market. Its most prominent product was Rezulin (troglitazone), a first-in-class thiazolidinedione for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The venture ceased operations following Pfizer's acquisition of Warner-Lambert in 2000 and the subsequent merger of Sankyo with Daiichi Pharmaceutical in 2005. The entity is historically significant for its role in introducing novel insulin-sensitizing agents, despite the eventual withdrawal of its lead product due to safety concerns.
