Company intelligence / Profile preview
Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur was a leading global provider of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products, formed through the integration of the diagnostics activities of the Institut Pasteur and the pharmaceutical company Sanofi. The company specialized in the development and manufacturing of high-quality tests for infectious diseases, including early diagnostic kits for HIV and various forms of hepatitis. Beyond virology, it maintained a strong presence in microbiology and blood screening, providing essential tools for clinical laboratories and blood banks worldwide. In 1999, following the merger of Sanofi and Synthélabo, the diagnostics division was sold to Bio-Rad Laboratories for approximately $310 million. This acquisition allowed Bio-Rad to significantly expand its clinical diagnostics portfolio, incorporating Sanofi's established technologies and market share.
