Company intelligence / Profile preview
Sanofi Pasteur MSD was a prominent European joint venture between Sanofi Pasteur and Merck (known as MSD outside the US and Canada), focused exclusively on the development and marketing of vaccines. Established in 1994 and headquartered in Lyon, France, the company operated across 19 European countries, leveraging the combined research and development expertise of its parent organizations. Its portfolio included critical vaccines for human papillomavirus, influenza, shingles, and various pediatric diseases. In 2016, the parent companies announced the dissolution of the joint venture to integrate their respective vaccine businesses into their own core operations. This strategic move allowed both Sanofi and Merck to manage their vaccine portfolios independently within the European market.
