Sanol-Schwarz

Schwarz Pharma, historically known as Sanol-Schwarz, was a prominent German pharmaceutical company focused on the development of therapies for the central nervous system, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal systems. The company achieved significant success with its late-stage pipeline, which included the rotigotine transdermal patch (Neupro) for Parkinson's disease and lacosamide (Vimpat) for epilepsy. In 2006, the company was acquired by the Belgian biopharmaceutical firm UCB for approximately 5.6 billion USD, a move that significantly bolstered UCB's neurology portfolio. Following the acquisition, Schwarz Pharma's operations were integrated into UCB, and its headquarters in Monheim became a major research and development hub for the parent company.
