SansRosa Pharmaceutical Development was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of innovative topical treatments for dermatological conditions, specifically rosacea. The company's lead research centered on alpha-adrenergic receptor agonists designed to reduce persistent facial redness (erythema) by constricting dilated blood vessels. In July 2011, SansRosa was acquired by Kythera Biopharmaceuticals for an upfront payment of $22 million plus potential milestone payments. The technology acquired through this transaction eventually led to the development and FDA approval of Rhofade (oxymetazoline) for the treatment of persistent facial erythema associated with rosacea.
