Satsuma Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing STS101, a novel drug-device combination product for the acute treatment of migraine. STS101 consists of a dry powder formulation of dihydroergotamine (DHE) delivered through a proprietary, compact, and self-administered nasal inhaler. The company's technology is designed to provide rapid absorption and high bioavailability, potentially offering faster relief than existing nasal sprays or oral treatments. In June 2023, Satsuma was acquired by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Nippon Shinyaku to bolster its portfolio in the neurology space. Despite receiving a Complete Response Letter from the FDA in early 2024 related to chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) issues, the company continues to work toward the commercialization of STS101.
