Satsuma Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing novel therapeutic products for the acute treatment of migraine. The company's lead product candidate, STS101, is a drug-device combination consisting of a proprietary dry-powder formulation of dihydroergotamine (DHE) administered via a specialized nasal delivery device. STS101 was designed to provide rapid, consistent, and convenient relief for migraine patients, addressing the pharmacokinetic variability and usability issues associated with existing DHE products. In June 2023, the company was acquired by its long-term partner, Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories (SNBL), which originally developed the nasal delivery technology. Despite receiving a Complete Response Letter from the FDA in early 2024 regarding manufacturing concerns, the company continues to pursue the commercialization of STS101.
