Saturn Pharmaceuticals

Saturn Pharmaceuticals was a venture-backed specialty pharmaceutical company established in 2005 to acquire and commercialize late-stage and approved products in the urology and specialty markets. The company's primary strategic move was the acquisition of the U.S. marketing rights for Sanctura (trospium chloride), a treatment for overactive bladder, from Pliva's subsidiary Odyssey Pharmaceuticals. Shortly after its formation, Saturn merged with Esprit Pharma and adopted the Esprit name to build a commercial infrastructure for its urology franchise. The company was ultimately acquired by Allergan in 2007 for approximately $370 million, which integrated the Sanctura products into its own urology portfolio. This acquisition allowed Allergan to expand its presence in the overactive bladder market alongside its existing treatments.
