Sauflon Pharmaceuticals

Sauflon Pharmaceuticals was a British medical device/pharma company specializing in the manufacture of soft contact lenses—including advanced daily disposable silicone hydrogels—and ophthalmic aftercare solutions. Founded by Alan Wells in Twickenham in 1985, it grew rapidly across Europe and globally thanks to patented cost-effective SiH lens production technology, opening a major plant in Budapest with Bond Capital Partners' support. By the time it was acquired by The Cooper Companies for $1.2B USD in August 2014, it had become one of only four companies worldwide making both contact lenses and their associated cleaning/care products, selling into more than fifty markets via sales offices across fourteen countries. All operations are now fully integrated into the parent company’s eye health division under the “CooperVision” brand name.
