Sbarro

The Sbarro Health Research Organization (SHRO) is a non-profit research institute dedicated to identifying the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Founded in 1993 by Dr. Antonio Giordano with support from the Sbarro family, the organization operates primarily through its partnership with Temple University's College of Science and Technology. SHRO's research is heavily focused on the cell cycle and tumor suppressor genes, notably the discovery and characterization of the pRb2/p130 gene. The institute facilitates international scientific collaboration and provides training for young researchers while advancing diagnostic and therapeutic innovations. Its work spans from basic genetic research to the development of novel therapeutic strategies and diagnostic tools for chronic illnesses.
