SCD Therapeutics

SCD Therapeutics was a biotechnology company dedicated to the development of novel treatments for sickle cell disease (SCD). The company's research focused on both small molecule metalloenzyme inhibitors and standardized botanical drugs, most notably SCD-101, which aimed to reduce red blood cell sickling and improve microvascular blood flow. Founded by Dr. Paul Swerdlow, a prominent hematologist, the company was acquired by Viamet Pharmaceuticals in 2010 to integrate its SCD expertise with Viamet's proprietary metalloenzyme platform. Although the company's lead botanical candidate reached Phase 1/2 clinical trials, the entity is currently inactive following the acquisition and subsequent shifts in the parent company's focus.
