Company intelligence / Profile preview
Schein Pharmaceutical was a prominent American manufacturer and marketer of generic multi-source injectable, liquid, and tablet pharmaceutical products. Founded in 1945, the company established itself as a leader in the generic drug industry, particularly following the Hatch-Waxman Act, by offering a vast portfolio of over 450 products. The company was highly regarded for its specialized expertise in sterile injectables and complex generic formulations. In 2000, Schein was acquired by Watson Pharmaceuticals in a transaction valued at approximately $665 million. This acquisition significantly bolstered Watson's position in the injectable and branded generic markets, eventually becoming part of the legacy of Actavis and Teva Pharmaceuticals.
