Schering Health Care

Schering Health Care was the United Kingdom subsidiary of the German pharmaceutical giant Schering AG, which was acquired by Bayer in 2006 to form Bayer Schering Pharma. The company was a global leader in specialized therapeutic areas, particularly in female healthcare (contraception and hormone replacement therapy), diagnostic imaging (contrast media), and specialized therapeutics for oncology and multiple sclerosis. Following the acquisition, its operations were integrated into Bayer's pharmaceutical division. Its legacy includes pioneering work in oral contraceptives and the development of beta-interferon treatments for neurological conditions. The company was distinct from the American firm Schering-Plough, which was later acquired by Merck & Co.
