Schering was a prominent German pharmaceutical company that operated under the name Schering-Kahlbaum AG between 1927 and 1937 following a significant merger. Headquartered in Berlin, the company established itself as a global leader in the fields of endocrinology, oncology, and diagnostic imaging. Schering is most notably recognized for developing the first oral contraceptive in Europe, Anovlar, which launched in 1961 and revolutionized women's healthcare. The company also pioneered the development of contrast media for magnetic resonance imaging, such as Magnevist. In 2006, Schering was acquired by Bayer AG for approximately €17 billion, leading to the creation of Bayer Schering Pharma.
