As one of the pioneers of the Italian chemical-pharmaceutical industry, the company evolved from a traditional pharmacy into a major industrial manufacturer of medicines, hygiene products, and chemical reagents. Throughout the 20th century, it was a prominent fixture in the Italian healthcare market before undergoing several corporate restructurings. The company's pharmaceutical assets were eventually acquired by Alfa Wassermann, which later merged to form Alfasigma.
