Schwarz Biosciences

Schwarz Pharma, which conducted much of its clinical development through its Schwarz Biosciences subsidiary, was a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Germany with a strong focus on the central nervous system, urology, and cardiovascular diseases. The company is best known for its successful development of Neupro (rotigotine), a transdermal patch for Parkinson's disease, and the antiepileptic drug Vimpat (lacosamide). In 2006, the company was acquired by the Belgian biopharmaceutical firm UCB for approximately $5.6 billion (€4.4 billion). This strategic acquisition allowed UCB to significantly expand its neurology franchise and leverage Schwarz's established infrastructure in the United States. Today, the products developed by Schwarz Biosciences remain core components of UCB's global neurology portfolio.
