Schwarz Pharma was a mid-sized German pharmaceutical company that specialized in the development and manufacturing of medicines for the central nervous system, urology, and cardiovascular systems. The company was particularly noted for its expertise in transdermal delivery systems, leading to the development of the Neupro patch for Parkinson's disease. In 2006, Schwarz Pharma was acquired by the Belgian biopharmaceutical company UCB for approximately $5.6 billion, a move that significantly expanded UCB's neurology portfolio. Today, Schwarz Pharma's legacy continues through its integrated products like Vimpat and Toviaz, as well as its manufacturing facilities in Ireland and Germany which remain operational under UCB's global network.
