Scorpion Biologics

Scorpius BioManufacturing, originally founded as Scorpion Biologics and later known as Scorpion Biological Services, was a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specializing in biologics. As a subsidiary of Scorpius Holdings (formerly NightHawk Biosciences), the company provided end-to-end services for cell and gene therapies, recombinant proteins, and vaccines, with a specialized focus on biodefense applications. Scorpius operated a clinical-scale facility in San Antonio, Texas, and was the designated manufacturer for the FDA-approved anthrax antitoxin ANTHIM (obiltoxaximab). Despite its initial growth and plans for a $650 million commercial facility in Kansas, the company faced severe financial challenges and ceased operations in early 2025. In December 2025, its manufacturing and development assets were acquired by Tivic Health to form a new CDMO entity, Velocity Bioworks.
