SEARCH Research Foundation

SEARCH (Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health) is a non-profit research organization and healthcare provider based in Gadchiroli, India. Founded in 1986 by Dr. Abhay Bang and Dr. Rani Bang, the foundation is globally recognized for its pioneering work in community-based healthcare and public health research. Its most significant contribution is the "Home-based Newborn Care" (HBNC) model, which demonstrated a drastic reduction in neonatal mortality and has been adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF for global implementation. The organization operates a community hospital and conducts extensive field research on maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and non-communicable diseases like hypertension and stroke. SEARCH also leads "Muktipath," a large-scale regional program for tobacco and alcohol control. Through its "Tribal Health Lab," the foundation addresses the unique health challenges of indigenous populations in central India.
