Seattle Vaccine Research Fund

The Seattle Vaccine Research Fund (SVRF) is a non-profit organization and a subordinate of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, established to support the ethical conduct of global HIV vaccine research. The fund provides long-term anti-retroviral therapy (ART) to clinical trial participants who become infected with HIV during studies conducted by the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN). SVRF serves as a "fund of last resort," ensuring that volunteers in resource-limited settings outside the United States have access to life-saving treatment when national programs are unavailable. By providing this medical support, the fund addresses a critical ethical requirement for conducting preventive HIV vaccine trials in developing countries. It is supported by donations from pharmaceutical companies and other organizations involved in vaccine development.
