SecurMed UK is the non-profit National Medicines Verification Organisation (NMVO) for the United Kingdom, established to implement the requirements of the EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD). The organization is responsible for the UK Medicines Verification System (UKMVS), a database that allows pharmacies and wholesalers to verify the authenticity of prescription medicines by scanning 2D data matrix barcodes. SecurMed was founded by a consortium of industry bodies representing manufacturers, wholesalers, and community pharmacies. Its primary mission is to protect the pharmaceutical supply chain from counterfeit medicines, ensuring patient safety through end-to-end verification.
