SensAble Technologies was a pioneer in haptic (force-feedback) technology and 3D modeling software, founded in 1993 as a spin-off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The company is globally recognized for its PHANTOM haptic devices, which allow users to touch and manipulate virtual objects with high precision. In the healthcare sector, SensAble developed the SensAble Dental Lab System, a comprehensive CAD/CAM solution for the digital design and fabrication of dental restorations. Its technology also played a critical role in medical simulation and surgical planning, providing surgeons with a tactile interface for training and procedure preparation. Beyond dentistry and surgery, the company's FreeForm software was utilized to design custom-fit prosthetics and orthotics. SensAble was acquired by Geomagic in 2012, and its core technologies were subsequently integrated into the 3D Systems healthcare and haptics portfolio.
