Sensant

Sensant Corporation was a pioneer in the field of medical imaging, specifically focusing on the development of Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers (CMUT). Founded as a spin-off from Stanford University, the company utilized micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology to create silicon-based ultrasound transducers. These devices offered significant advantages over traditional piezoelectric transducers, including improved image resolution, wider bandwidth, and the ability to be integrated directly with CMOS electronics. Sensant's technology enabled the development of advanced 2D and 3D ultrasound probes for diagnostic applications. In 2005, the company was acquired by Siemens Medical Solutions, which integrated Sensant's CMUT technology into its Acuson ultrasound product line.
