Company intelligence / Profile preview
Serologicals Corporation was a leading global provider of biological products, enabling technologies, and services to the life sciences industry. The company specialized in developing and manufacturing products used in the research, development, and manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, as well as in molecular diagnostics. Its portfolio included high-quality cell culture supplements, such as the proprietary Ex-Cyte growth enhancer, and a vast array of antibodies and reagents through its subsidiaries Chemicon and Upstate. Serologicals was a key supplier of animal-derived proteins, including bovine serum albumin, which are critical for vaccine and drug production. In 2006, the company was acquired by Millipore Corporation for approximately $1.4 billion, a move that significantly expanded Millipore's presence in the drug discovery and upstream bioprocessing markets. Following Millipore's subsequent acquisition by Merck KGaA, the Serologicals product lines were integrated into what is now MilliporeSigma.
