Serono Diagnostics was the specialized in vitro diagnostics division of the Swiss biotechnology leader Serono SA. The company was a pioneer in the development of advanced immunoassay systems, focusing heavily on endocrinology, reproductive health, and oncology. Its portfolio featured automated platforms like the SR1 analyzer and a comprehensive suite of reagents for measuring hormones such as hCG, TSH, and LH. In 1994, Serono Diagnostics was acquired by Dade International for approximately $115 million as part of Serono's strategic shift toward its core biopharmaceutical and recombinant technology business. Today, the legacy of its technology resides within Siemens Healthineers following subsequent industry consolidations. The division played a critical role in establishing Serono's early dominance in the global fertility market.
