Serono España was the Spanish subsidiary of Serono S.A., a leading global biotechnology company specializing in reproductive health, neurology, and growth and metabolism. The company commercialized prominent biologic therapies in Spain, including Gonal-f for infertility, Rebif for multiple sclerosis, and Saizen for growth hormone deficiency. In June 2007, following the global acquisition of Serono S.A. by Merck KGaA, Serono España was officially absorbed into Merck Farma y Química, S.L., resulting in its dissolution and the integration of its operations into the Merck Group.
