Company intelligence / Profile preview
Shaman Pharmaceuticals was a pioneering biotech/pharma company founded in the late '80s that focused on discovering and developing drugs from tropical plants used in traditional medicine. The company advanced several candidates into clinical trials—including Crofelemer for AIDS-related diarrhea—but exited pharmaceutical R&D around early 1999 due to financial constraints and regulatory hurdles. It then pivoted toward herbal remedies under the name "Shaman Botanicals." Most pharmaceutical programs were discontinued by this point.
