Shandon Clinic

Shandon Clinic was a clinical research organization (CRO) and Phase I clinical trial unit based in Cork, Ireland. Established around 1990 and operating out of the former University Dental Hospital, the clinic specialized in conducting early-phase clinical studies, including pharmacokinetic, bioequivalence, and dermatology trials for global pharmaceutical companies. At its peak, the facility managed approximately 20 to 30 clinical trials annually and featured an 18-bed unit for intensive monitoring. The clinic gained significant international attention in 2010 following a Phase I trial incident where several volunteers experienced severe adverse reactions, leading to a formal investigation by the Irish Medicines Board. The company is no longer active, and its former premises have been identified in recent urban regeneration reports as vacant and derelict.
