Shanxi Sanwei Group was a major state-owned chemical conglomerate based in Shanxi Province, China, primarily focused on the production of organic chemical intermediates. The company was a leading manufacturer of 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which are used in various industrial applications. While its core business was industrial chemicals, the group maintained a presence in the healthcare sector through its subsidiary, Shanxi Sanwei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. However, the company became widely known for a massive environmental scandal in 2018 involving the illegal dumping of industrial waste. This led to severe regulatory penalties, financial distress, and a subsequent corporate restructuring. The group was eventually absorbed by the Huayang New Material Technology Group and renamed Shanxi Huayang New Material Co., Ltd.
