Company intelligence / Profile preview
Shionogi BioResearch (SBR) was a Massachusetts-based research subsidiary of the Japanese pharmaceutical company Shionogi & Co., Ltd. Established in 1997, the center was located in Lexington to capitalize on the region's rich biotechnology and academic environment. SBR focused on early-stage drug discovery, utilizing molecular biology and high-throughput screening to identify novel small molecule candidates for inflammation, metabolic disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. The facility played a key role in Shionogi's international R&D strategy for over a decade. In 2011, Shionogi closed the Lexington site as part of a global restructuring plan to centralize its research activities in Japan.
