Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service

Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) is a Canadian non-profit organization providing specialized emergency medical services and critical care transport. Founded in 1985, the organization operates a fleet of medically equipped helicopters to reach patients in rural and remote areas across Western Canada. STARS is staffed by expert flight crews, including transport physicians, nurses, and paramedics, who deliver advanced life support during transit to major trauma centers. In addition to air transport, the organization provides medical oversight through its Emergency Link Centre and virtual care initiatives. The service is funded through a combination of government contracts and community donations.
