Singapore Bioinnovations

Singapore Bio-Innovations (SBI) was a strategic venture capital firm established in 1990 as a subsidiary of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). It served as the primary investment vehicle for the Singaporean government to seed and grow the domestic biotechnology ecosystem by investing in international life science companies. SBI's investment strategy focused on identifying high-potential firms in the United States and Europe and incentivizing them to establish research, development, or manufacturing operations in Singapore. The firm was instrumental in the early stages of Singapore's Biomedical Sciences Initiative, helping to build the infrastructure and human capital that defined the industry's growth in the 1990s. In 2001, SBI was merged into EDB Investments (EDBI) to consolidate the government's investment activities. While no longer operating as an independent entity, its legacy is evident in the numerous multinational biotech corporations that maintain a significant presence in Singapore today.
