Skånemejerier is a major Swedish dairy company headquartered in Malmö, specializing in the production of milk, cheese, and functional dairy products. While primarily a food and beverage entity, the company is a significant player in the health and life sciences sector through its development of functional foods, most notably the ProViva brand. ProViva was developed in collaboration with the biotech firm Probi AB and contains the clinically documented probiotic strain Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, which is used to support digestive health. Originally founded as a farmers' cooperative in 1964, the company was acquired by the French dairy giant Lactalis in 2012.
