Company intelligence / Profile preview
SmartPill Diagnostics, originally known as The SmartPill Corporation, was a medical technology company that developed the SmartPill™ Motility Monitoring System, an ingestible capsule used to evaluate gastrointestinal (GI) motility. The wireless capsule measures pH, pressure, and temperature throughout the entire GI tract, providing clinicians with data on gastric emptying time, colonic transit time, and whole gut transit time. This non-invasive diagnostic tool was primarily used to identify motility disorders such as gastroparesis and chronic constipation. The company was acquired by Given Imaging in 2012, which was subsequently integrated into Medtronic following the Covidien acquisition. In late 2023, Medtronic announced the discontinuation of the SmartPill product line as part of a strategic portfolio optimization.
