Company intelligence / Profile preview
Sola Barnes-Hind was a prominent vision care entity created by the merger of Sola Optical and Barnes-Hind under the ownership of Pilkington plc in the late 1980s. The company specialized in a comprehensive range of ophthalmic products, including contact lenses, lens care solutions, and spectacle lenses. Barnes-Hind was a pioneer in the development of wetting solutions for hard contact lenses and later expanded into soft contact lens technology. The entity was eventually dismantled in the 1990s, with the contact lens and solution business sold to Allergan, while the eyeglass lens division, Sola, was later acquired by Carl Zeiss.
