Solar Capital

Solar Capital most commonly refers to the former publicly traded business development company Solar Capital Ltd. and its affiliated investment advisor Solar Capital Partners. The business was not a drug developer or healthcare operating company; instead, it provided direct lending and specialty finance solutions to U.S. middle market companies, including a dedicated life science lending strategy for later-stage biopharma, medical device, diagnostics, healthcare IT, and healthcare services borrowers. In February 2021, Solar Capital Ltd. changed its name to SLR Investment Corp., and Solar Capital Partners rebranded as SLR Capital Partners. As a result, "Solar Capital" is best understood as a legacy brand name rather than a current standalone healthcare, biotech, or pharma company. Its healthcare relevance comes from financing life sciences and healthcare businesses, not from owning a therapeutic product pipeline.
