Solar Foods

Solar Foods is a Finnish biotechnology company that produces a sustainable protein called Solein using gas fermentation. The process utilizes carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and oxygen, along with small amounts of nutrients, to grow microorganisms that are then dried into a protein-rich powder. Solein is independent of agriculture, weather, and climate, offering a highly sustainable alternative to traditional animal and plant-based proteins. The company received its first novel food regulatory approval in Singapore in 2022 and has since launched commercial products. Solar Foods operates a factory called Factory 01 to scale up production for the global food industry.
