Company intelligence / Profile preview
Solutia Inc. was a global manufacturer of performance materials and specialty chemicals, originally spun off from Monsanto in 1997. The company played a significant role in the life sciences sector through its Pharmaceutical Services division, which included the well-known contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) CarboGen and Amcis. These units provided process development and manufacturing for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and highly potent compounds. Following a period of restructuring, Solutia sold its pharmaceutical business in 2006 and was eventually acquired by Eastman Chemical Company in 2012 for approximately $4.7 billion. Today, its legacy continues within Eastman's specialty materials portfolio, serving various industries including healthcare and automotive.
