Somanta Pharmaceutical was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing innovative oncology treatments. The company focused on small molecule therapeutics that targeted the tumor microenvironment and specific genetic drivers of cancer. Its lead program, Angiocol, was designed as an anti-angiogenic agent for the treatment of various solid tumors. Another key candidate, ST-1571, was a BCR-ABL inhibitor aimed at treating chronic myeloid leukemia. In 2008, Somanta was acquired by Alfacell Corporation in an all-stock transaction intended to diversify Alfacell's oncology pipeline. Following the acquisition, its programs were integrated into Alfacell's development strategy, which later transitioned into Tamir Biotechnology.
