Soteira was a medical device company that specialized in developing minimally invasive solutions for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures (VCF). The company's flagship product, the Shield Kyphoplasty System, utilized a unique balloon-like component designed to create a void in the vertebral body for the controlled and targeted delivery of bone cement. This technology aimed to restore vertebral height and alleviate pain in patients suffering from fractures caused by osteoporosis or cancer. In 2012, Soteira was acquired by Globus Medical for approximately $23.5 million, allowing Globus to expand its interventional spine and pain management portfolio.
