Sound Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing the first regenerative and protective therapies for sensorineural hearing loss and tinnitus. The company's lead candidate, SPI-1005 (ebselen), is a small molecule that mimics the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), a key antioxidant enzyme in the inner ear. SPI-1005 has received FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation for the treatment of Meniere's disease and is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials. Sound Pharmaceuticals is also exploring SPI-1005 for other neurotologic conditions, including noise-induced hearing loss and ototoxicity, as well as neuropsychiatric disorders.
