Company intelligence / Profile preview
SFBC International, originally founded as the South Florida Bioavailability Clinic in 1984, was a prominent Contract Research Organization (CRO) specializing in early-phase clinical development services. The company was a leader in conducting bioavailability and bioequivalence studies, operating one of the largest independent clinical trial facilities in North America at its Miami, Florida headquarters. In the mid-2000s, SFBC gained significant notoriety following investigative reports that alleged unethical practices and safety violations at its primary clinical site. Following these controversies and a subsequent federal investigation, the company rebranded as PharmaNet Development Group in 2006 and relocated its operations to New Jersey. The firm was eventually acquired by JLL Partners in 2009 and later merged with inVentiv Health in 2011. Today, its legacy operations are part of Syneos Health, a global provider of biopharmaceutical solutions.
