Southern California Transplant Associates is a specialized medical group that focused on organ transplantation services in the Los Angeles area. The group was primarily known for its expertise in kidney and pancreas transplantation, operating for decades in affiliation with St. Vincent Medical Center. Founded by Dr. Robert Mendez and Dr. Rafael Mendez, the associates played a critical role in developing one of the busiest transplant programs in the United States. Beyond clinical practice, the group was involved in the establishment of the Mendez National Institute of Transplantation to advance research and education in the field. Their services encompassed the entire transplant continuum, including donor procurement, surgical intervention, and long-term post-operative care. Following the closure of St. Vincent Medical Center in 2020, the group's primary clinical operations have largely ceased or transitioned to other regional health systems.
