Southwest Michigan Innovation Center

The Southwest Michigan Innovation Center (SMIC), now known as the WMed Innovation Center, is a premier life science incubator located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The 69,000-square-foot facility is designed to support early-stage biotechnology, healthcare, and technology companies by providing high-quality laboratory and office space. Resident companies benefit from access to shared scientific equipment, business development resources, and a collaborative entrepreneurial ecosystem. In 2016, the center was acquired by the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine to better align regional research and commercialization efforts. It serves as a vital hub for innovation, helping startups transition scientific discoveries into viable commercial products.
