Specialized Health Products International (SHPI) was a medical device company specializing in the development and manufacture of safety-engineered needles and syringes. The company's primary focus was on reducing the incidence of accidental needlestick injuries among healthcare workers through proprietary safety mechanisms. Their flagship products included safety Huber needles, such as the Lift-Loc and SafeStep brands, which are used for accessing implanted ports. SHPI's business model included both direct sales and licensing its safety technologies to major medical supply companies. In 2008, the company was acquired by C. R. Bard for approximately $113 million, becoming part of Bard's Access Systems division.
